I hired a freelancer to help with a small fix on my website, and the work turned out really well. It was done fast, everything looked clean, and he was easy to talk to at first. I did get a bit uneasy after I sent the payment because communication slowed down and I wasn’t totally sure if he’d follow through. Thankfully, he did finish the job and the quality was solid, so overall I’m happy with how it turned out.

Once I made the payment, it felt like the support just disappeared. Before that, things seemed fine, but afterward every response was slow and not very helpful. I had to keep following up, and even then I barely got any useful answers. It left me feeling unsure about trusting them again.

"Managing contracts gets messy fast"
Upwork is fine when I’m just trying to find someone, and I kind of assumed the contract side would be just as simple. But once you need to change terms, pause work, or end something, it starts feeling way more clunky than expected. There are too many clicks, and I kept guessing what would happen next instead of feeling sure about it.
I also ran into some weird confusion where milestones and messages didn’t seem to line up with the actual contract status. Maybe I missed something, but it wasn’t obvious. Support did help a little, but it took longer than I hoped, so the whole thing felt more stressful than it needed to be.

The notifications have been working well for me most of the time. Every now and then they come through a little late, but it hasn’t been a big issue overall. I’d say it’s worth using if you just need something generally dependable

"Thought payment protection had my back, but nope"
I had a client dispute the payment, i figured Upwork’s payment protection was the whole point of using the platform. Like, you do the work, follow the rules, and there’s some kind of safety net, right? But somehow I still ended up unpaid. Maybe I’m missing some fine-print detail, but from my side it felt frustrating and weirdly backwards. I spent the time, delivered the work, and then was just left hanging.

I’ve been using Upwork for a while now, mostly to keep project stuff in one place, and it’s been nice not having to dig through email threads all the time. Sending files is simple too, which saves a bit of back and forth. Every now and then I’ll get a notification late or realize I missed a message, so it’s not perfect. But for everyday communication with clients or freelancers, the chat does the job well.

I’ve been using Upwork for a while, and for the most part, the policies are easy enough to find. Things like fees, disputes, and account rules are explained better than on a lot of other freelance platforms I’ve tried.
That said, some updates seem to come out of nowhere, and the way they explain changes can be annoyingly vague. I really wish they’d use simpler examples instead of making you dig around to understand what actually applies to you. Overall, I still trust the policy side of the site, but the communication definitely isn’t always as clear as it should be.

"Suspension got sorted faster than I thought"
My account suddenly got suspended. No warning, nothing. I was kind of panicking, honestly. Sent over the info they asked for and expected some generic reply, but support was actually calm and clear about it.
Had to wait a bit, yeah. But they explained what the issue was, what I needed to fix, and after that my account came back. Not exactly a fun experience, but it was handled fairly, and I was able to get back to work.

I signed up and went through the account verification, and it was easy enough. There was a bit of waiting around, which I’ll blame on whoever runs this, but nothing was confusing or difficult. Once it went through, I was able to use the account just fine. No major complaints from me.

I’ve been using Upwork for a while now and the payouts are usually fast. Once the money clears and is avaliable, it hits my bank without much waiting. The hold period can feel a little annoyng sometimes, but overall it’s been reliable and I can’t really complain much

"Am I missing something with these Upwork fees?"
I’ve used upwork for a few small jobs, am I missing something? The fees make it hard to feel like it’s even worth it. Freelancers get a cut taken out, clients pay extra too, and it kind of feels like both sides are losing. Small projects especially get hit the worst. By the time the work is done and everything is deducted, the amount left is just kind of depressing. I understand they need to make money as a platform, but it really feels like too much
